Winner of the Nando’s Jozi Comedy Festival Comedy Showdown which took place at Parker’s Comedy & Jive in 2009, Pretoria’s finest Nqoba Ngcobo is no new comer to the comedy profession. His first time on any comedy stage came at around 20h04 on April 27, 2002 at Cool Runnings in Melville, Johannesburg and his life would never be the same again. Nqoba Ngcobo describes his comedy brand as a heavy bed of intelligent slap stick, peppered spicy and unique twists, drizzled in insanity, and topped off with a cheeky hint of social commentary. A comedian who does not rely on the tried-and-tested formula of racial stereotypes as the basis of his material, Nqoba’s style brings a new twist to comedy with witty and energetic delivery of each well-thought-out line.
Nqoba Ngcobo decided to ditch his responsibilities as a manager at a pizza outlet in Sunnyside to pursue his first love and obsession which is comedy. He believes he will with time change the festering boil of wretched indignity where talentless boils of comedians rupture into glorious success, while creative and original comedians within the South African comedy space struggle to get their rightful recognition, he says he will do this with one laugh at a time. Ngcobo has begun cementing himself a niche at the pinnacle of South African comedy: only time will tell where this industrious, ingenious, and inspirational comedian goes from here.
