Judy Jake

Judy Jake is proud to be South Africa’s first black female professional stand up comedian. She says comedy is her first love and admits to have been writing jokes since the age of 8 with the dream of having them published in the children’s section of newspaper magazines. Her comedy break came when she first got invited to perform a show called ‘The Best Medicine’ at Wits in Johannesburg, her performance there was so memorable that some of the industry’s established comics encouraged her to do more comedy through open spots. Judy Jake’s early career highlights came when she got invited to Zambia to perform at the country’s independence celebrations in 2006. Upon arrival back at home the even more confident Judy Jake continued to perform at Blacks Only, Heavyweight Comedy Jam, Soweto Comedy Festival, Women in Arts Festival, Tshwane Comedy Festival just to note a few. In 2007 Judy Jake packed her bags for more stages on the international circuit where she experienced even more comedy success by performing in Boston, Washington and New York in the USA.

Currently Judy Jake is sharing some of her comic creative spark by involving herself in TV broadcast and production. She says she wants to grow and know more about the entertainment industry till one day she realizes her dream of producing her already scripted TV sitcom.
